چکیده

Hemp fibre mat reinforced polyester composites were fabricated using a conventional sheet moulding compound (SMC) process. The influence of fibre and CaCO3 filler content on strength and stiffness of the HF-SMCs is reported and compared with data for chopped glass fibre reinforced sheet moulding compounds (GF-SMCs). In addition the influence of alkaline and silane treatments of the hemp fibres is evaluated. The experimental data is compared to modified versions of the Cox-Krenchel and Kelly-Tyson models, supplemented with parameters of composite porosity to improve the prediction of composite tensile properties. A good agreement was found between the modified models and experimental data for strength and stiffness. The results indicate that HF-SMCs are of interest for lowcost engineering applications that require high stiffness to weight ratios.

Advances for the Topographic Characterisation of SMC Materials

For a comprehensive study of Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) surfaces, topographical data obtained by a contact-free optical method (chromatic aberration confocal imaging) were systematically acquired to characterise these surfaces with regard to their statistical, functional and volumetrical properties. Optimal sampling conditions (cut-off length and resolution) were obtained by a topographical-...

Properties of Hemp Fibre Reinforced Concrete Composites

This research is concerned with the mechanical and physical properties of hemp fibre reinforced concrete (HFRC). An experimental program was developed based on the statistical method of fractional factors design. The variables for the experimental study were: 1) mixing method; 2) fibre content by weight; 3) aggregate size; and 4) fibre length. Their effects on the compressive and flexural perfo...

Evaluating the Sintering Temperature Control Towards the Adsorptivity of Ammonia onto the Natural Zeolite Based Hollow Fibre Ceramic Membrane

The disproportionate quantity of ammonia presence in water has led to serious drinkable water scarcity worldwide. The abundant source of mineral and superior cations selectivity has made natural zeolite as a good adsorbent for the ammonia removal. This work aims to fabricate natural zeolite based hollow fibre ceramic membrane (HFCM) via extrusion based phase inversion and sintering techniques f...
